Three most popular poker game variants

Poker is a kind of cards game that has a lot of variants. We have compiled a list of the three most downloaded poker games.

Texas Hold’em
The first on our list is “Texas Hold’em” and there is no doubt that this is the most popular of all poker games at playsolidpoker.com. It is the common choice of all dealers’ when it comes to home games and the frequently televised tournaments of Texas Hold’em have made this game even more popular. It has three different types; Limit Texas Hold’em, No Limit and Pot Limit and all three continue to be the players’ top choice.

Texas Hold’em is played with two cards which dealt to each player, face down. A betting round is then played in which three cards follow the initial two cards. The players start betting after they receive the three cards. After the turn and river, the two cards dealt initially are faced up. The last betting round is played after the river has been dealt. At the end, the players show their cards and the one with the best poker hand is the winner of the game.

Guts

Guts is an extremely exciting game and all the thrill revolves around its bluffing and showdowns. There are a whole lot of variations to this game but the most commonly played version involves each player having three cards and playing against each other. To make the game even crazier, add the element of pass or draw to the game. This will create more betting and more bluffing as all players will try to match the pot.

Guts is played with three cards, dealt after anteing an amount which is determined prior to playing the game. The players then have to decide if they are going to play their hand or opt for bluffing. The choice depends on their hand’s strength. Each player then extends his/her card to the middle while keeping them face down. The dealer counts….one, two, three and then ‘guts’. When the dealer says ‘guts’, players have the option to either drop the hand or keep holding them in order to advance forward. The winner is decided on the basis of the highest cards that are left in the game. The game ends when only one player is left holding cards for showdown. Losers have to pay for the pot as penalty and the winner takes away the whole pot.

Midnight Baseball

The third most famous and most commonly played game by poker lovers is midnight baseball. This game is similar to Seven- Card No Peek, where the cards are dealt face down. The player’s hand is not exposed all at the same time but instead one at a time. However, the difference between the two games is that in Midnight Baseball, the three and nine cards are supposed to be wild and when the card with the number four is exposed, players have the option to buy an extra card for an amount that has been determined prior to playing the game. To make the game more exciting, buying an extra card could be made mandatory when the card four is exposed during the game.
